The near space | 2014The space that surrounds us is not a neutral space because it is formed first of all in our mind. It allows us to build a map of the world made up of elements placed at the right distance from us. The near space investigates five monumental architectures of the city of Mantua inspired by the concept of 'personal distance' in Proxemics, the discipline that studies the way we place ourselves in space during a conversation. The 'personal distance' is the distance within which we could ideally extend an arm and grasp the other. Here the other is represented by the architectural space in which we often move in a distracted way, without concentrating on it. Grasping does not mean literally touching, but establishing a connection with the object, the place, the space in which we are physically present. It is an attempt to understand our relationship with architecture and the role we play in it. |
